Things I Wish I Could Tell 8-Year-Old Me

I decided to create something of a series of lists, things I wish I could tell a younger version of myself, based on what I know now.

When I was eight, I moved to Cameroon. It was a tricky transition, and there were parts of it that were really hard.

Things I Wish I Could Tell 8-Year-Old Me

  1. You're going to make friends that are going to turn into family, and there is no getting around that.
  2. That boy that you thought was annoying and you're not actually sure your friends with, is going to turn into a really funny guy that you wind up dating, so be nice, and keep in mind you're gonna know him for a while.
  3. Don't be afraid of losing friends. Have your friends while you have your friends. It's painful to lose them, and it hurts, but don't be afraid of the pain.
  4. It's okay to be confident and sassy sometimes.
  5. Read. Read as much as you do. You're incredible. Be friends with books. Just don't hide in them.
  6. Keep an open mind about all of the transitions and new things you're experiencing. I know it's confusing and I know it's scary, but these people are nice and they love you, so let them teach you new things.
  7. Make friends with wrap skirts, they're a convenient clothing option.
  8. Be creative and have fun with your imagination! It's a gift!
